Totonno's Dinner Reviewed
Totonno's was a huge success. I have pictures which I will try to figure out how to get onto the computer. Here is a review:
The pizza was very good. We tried both the traditional margherita pizza as well as the slightly less traditional bianca pizza which basically is garlic bread with cheese. Crispy, thin crust dough, with good cheese and tomato sauce. The Chianti disappointingly came in a normal bottle without any straw at the bottom.
The ambiance left something to be desired. Maybe this was because the restaurant was covered in St Patrick day tinsel and clovers.
The service was spotty. With no sommelier, the waitress had to pour the wine herself, and it was a disaster. Even though I ordered the wine, she had zach taste it. After he tasted it, she then filled his glass rather than serving the other people at the table (just me) first. Unacceptable.
The good people at Totonno's were kind enough to give us a tour of their ovens. When they asked if we were visiting, I explained that I had heard about their famous ovens and how old they were. They responded: "Well, this oven is about a year old, but I think the one on Coney Island is older." Outside of Totonno's, they have a big advertisement for a coal oven that is illegal now but was grandfathered in.
Overall, this was a truly incredible experience. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying it, as if they were on ecstasy or something.
Hopefully pictures, and maybe a bunch more reviews to follow.
