A Nice Weekend in Review: 5.6.06 -- Saturday

Peaches & Cream instant oatmeal

Scrambled eggs with green garlic roots -- The nice lady at the farmer's market suggested that I cut up the roots of the green garlic (this is just young garlic, and looks sort of like scallions, but with a slight bigger bulb) and add to eggs. I did this. It had a mild flavor, and was nice. Thanks farmer lady!

At this point, FoodBrother Mike arrived for a 2-day visit.

Mozzarella, tomato, basil w/ olive oil
Pasta with ramps and green garlic -- I took this dish from this guy's FoodReports, about which I would say I have a mixture of feelings. I tweaked it a bit, adding a little creme fraiche for body and a little lemon zest. This dish was decidedly a B. I may not have made enough sauce for the amount of pasta, but in general I would say that the taste was not bad but underwhelming. Still, it was fun to use some fresh seasonal items from the farmer's market, and the wilted Ramp greens themselves were incredibly tasty.
