It was the Pesto

Yesterday I ate:

Smoked turkey w/lettuce, ketchup and pesto on toasted ciabatta bread, but something wasn't quite right. Since I am new to the world of sandwiches I had difficulty locating the problem. At first I thought it was the pesto--perhaps it was too minty somehow, or too fresh. Then I thought it could be the turkey after I ate some isolated turkey with ketchup. The bread of course was an option too, because it was shaped squarely instead of rectangularly as usual. In the end, I did not know. I also had a chocolate chip cookie, an orange juice, some oyster crackers, some gross hot chocolate, and chips, salsa, turkey, and 2 cookies for dinner.

Today, I used a plain white roll as a control group and the rest of the little container of pesto I got yesterday. The offending variable yesterday was indeed the pesto, which I believe was just too fresh.

Tonight I will have a chicken McGrill sandwich on a white bun (not the wheat bun they have started using for these sandwiches in an effort to make me healthier, although it will take me an additional 5-10 minutes to explain this to the nice but flustered people who work at the McDonalds with all the flashing lights on 42nd street between 7th and 8th Ave), a small fries and a small orange juice with no ice. I will eat all of this on the bus to Boston, where I am going this weekend to attend my Dad's 60th birthday party. The food there will be fascinating, so prepare for a treat!

"Too fresh" is a phrase that has another meaning in 80s jive slang. I have confidence that with a bit of practice your sandwiches will go from too fresh to Too Fresh in no time!

Also, weirdly, MMW and KSWH are also both going to Boston this weekend. Say hi to my Mom! It's her birthday today.

i think that a lot of this can be explained by the fact that it is junior parents weekend, and my mom is looking forward to hearing larry summers speak before he goes. she also may hear soon to be ex-house master / still racist Robert Kirshner speak before attending some cocktails at elliot house. say hi to her at those events zach!
