Guest Ingest: Weekend
Friday
1 bowl Raisin Bran Clusters, 1% milk
1 bite corn bread
The corn bread has become disgusting. I reluctantly threw out the rest.
Diet Pepsi
La Bottega
3 pints Heineken
Some bread
A few bites calamari and avocado salad
A few bites burrata and tomato
Strip steak with sautéed mushroom and spinach
Biscotti
The meal was paid for by work, which was nice of them. The biscotti were weird. I swear that they tasted like curry, and other people at the table agreed, though they may have been swayed by my declaration. We asked the waitress, who went to taste one for herself, and then asked the kitchen. They said it was fennel. I do not see how I could possibly mistake fennel for curry, but I also don’t see why an Italian restaurant would be serving curry-flavored biscotti.
1 bottle Becks Dark (a mistake)
1 bottle Stella
2 bottles Rolling Rock
2 pints Yuengling
3 pints Budweiser
4ish shots whatever that was
A few fruit segments
Thank you, mysterious karaoke benefactor.
Saturday
2 fried eggs, wheat toast
1 glass lemonade
Spinach salad with grape tomatoes
1 half box TJ’s lemongrass chicken sticks
1 classic Vietnamese sandwich
1 hot Vietnamese coffee
Harco’s is a new place near my apartment that is very much in the style of Nicky’s, but sadly about 5% less good. That’s still pretty good, though.
1 chocolate chip cookie
3 glasses prosecco
1 slice chocolate cake with coffee ice cream
2 fried eggs, wheat toast
Vanilla chocolate chunk ice cream cone
1 chicken and mushroom pie
Chips (fries)
20 oz.

I have a question that I forgot to ask you before. In your original questionaire, you wrote:
Good Eats is my now-and-forever #1, but I don’t re-watch ones I’ve already seen any more, and the switch to DV for the new season is still slightly off-putting
Good Eats is also my number one, but I realized that when you say that it switched to DV, I don't know what you are referring to. What are you referring to?
This current season of Good Eats looked different to me. I assumed it was a switch to DV, but if I'd thought it through, I'd have realized it's been on DV all along. It turns out what they actually did for the new season was switch to HD. I just think it looks a little weird. The color balance and depth of field are a little different.
Plus, he seems more gonzo than ever about putting tiny cameras in weird places. But that's a separate issue.
What a week it was. Thank you so very much for your reporting. As per tradition, the FoodFriends will treat you to as many beers as you can drink in an hour at Blue & Gold.
Thanks for explaining.
Also, thanks for a great week. You really seemed to get foodreporting.
Good week, as above. Have you given any thought to making a show like Good Eats, but shot entirely on film stock? Possibly 65mm?
An excellent suggestion, Jack. Perhaps as an homage to (my erstwhile instructor) Chantal Akerman's Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, I can prepare only the slowest-cooking dishes, all in real time. 300-Minute Meals.
