Sundways, 6/25 (guest)
SC's aunt and uncle's house, Hillsborough, CA, 9:00am
one Airborne tablet (original flavor) in water
Wheaties with sliced banana (half) and skim milk
fruit salad (strawberries, grapes, pineapple chunks)
tiny blueberry muffin
See's Awesome Peanut Brittle Bar (half)
I took the Airborne because I felt a little snotty, and it seems to have worked, insomuch as I believe Airborne is only useful for its placebo effects.
Donny's, San Mateo, CA, 10:00am
small coffee with 1.5 creams and one sugar
Along the lines of The J (Carl's Jr.), and The Princess (Cort), Donny's is our household nickname for McDonald's. Careful readers will be able to ascertain what I did at almost exactly 10:20am, after SC, Suebell, Yank and I arrived at the Winchester Mystery House.
Santana Row Farmer's Market, San Jose, CA, 12:30pm
samples of shortcake and pineapple chicken
two strawberries
sample of lavash bread stuffed with spinach and cilantro, dipped in sun-dried tomato hummus
one cob of corn on a stick, with butter
Like some kind of idiot, I finished the shortcake before realizing I was surrounded by strawberries. Still, both were tasty enough on their own. The corn was pretty great.
Suebell's car, driving down the 101, 1:00pm
a bunch of Trader Joe's cinnamon and sugar pita chips
Pedrizzetti Winery, Morgan Hill, CA, 1:45pm
tastings of chardonnay, merlot, raspberry fruit wine, and cranberry fruit wine
Nothing really stood out here. The fruit wines tasted like candy, so I guess they'd be useful if you ever needed to get a small child very drunk.
Fortino Winery, Gilroy, CA, 2:30pm
tastings of chardonnay, riesling, burgundy reserve, charbono, and almond champagne
My favorite was the riesling, although the charbono definitely seemed classier. Almond champagne seemed like a good idea, but it only served to remind me of the significantly preferable Canty Cool-Aid.
Solis Winery, Gilroy, CA, 3:00pm
glasses of chardonnay, roseo, syrah, merlot (from a barrel), and muscat
Italian sausage sandwich with onions (I scraped off the peppers)
pita bread and more stuffed lavash and more sun-dried tomato hummus
chimmichurri, lentil curry, and some delicious sun-dried tomato pesto
apricot almond bar
I learned, from a guy wearing a T-shirt labeled "The Barrel Man," that the device for removing wine from a barrel, which resembles a giant eye dropper, is commonly known as a wine thief. I still don't really know what chimmichurri is.
Casa de Wine and Deli, Gilroy, CA, 5:00pm
tasting of Chaucer's Mead
piece of SC's Isabella Zanger gourmet chocolate
Chaucer's Mead is made by fermenting honey, then adding non-fermented honey for color. Would you care to guess whether or not it's delicious?
Wendy's, outside of Bakersfield, CA, 8:30pm
crispy chicken sandwich
most of SC's fries
Please let me know if you come up with a good Donny's-style nickname for Wendy's.

great conversation which was overheard. Participants were MEY, and a guy wearing the "Barrel Guy" t-shirt, standing next to a barrel, serving wine from the barrel, of which he was in charge.
MEY: So you're the barrel guy?
Barrel Guy: That's right.
MEY: How'd you get that name?
Does anyone know how many bottles of wine are in a barrel? hint: it killed my plan of buying a barrel of wine and throwing a party.

Wim Wenders?
Wim Wenders, as everyone knows, refers to the Wendy's in Rockefeller Center only.
I should also mention that Suebell, who works closely with young children on a daily basis, actually did buy a bottle of the cranberry fruit wine. I've alerted the superintendent and all relevant hall-enforcement personnel.
Pete's.
