3.16.06 -- Grandma Dinner

Peaches and Cream Instant Oatmeal

Orange
Baby Carrots
Vanilla Yogurt
Hunts Chocolate Pudding Snack Pack -- I've resolved to try chocolate fudge next week.
Bosch pear

30-yolk spaghettini with shredded braised duck -- fine
1 of grandma's shrimp -- this shrimp came with the sand intact
braised lamb shoulder with winter vegetables -- the winter vegetables were the highlight of the meal
some of grandma's special pasta with balsamic in the dough and a butter sauce with aged balsamic -- despite our waiter repeatedly telling us how special it was because it was invented right there in that restaurant, it was pretty nothing much to talk about
1 cup earl grey tea

Grandma decided to nix our original plan of deli because she decided that she wanted to take me to a very fancy restaurant (you can see the chef on pbs, http://www.lidiasitaly.com/index2.htm). Grandma was very happy and thought the food was the best around. I had a good time with Grandma, but mostly thought the goal of the restaurant was to sell cookbooks, which the waiter made sure to mention and which were a prominent theme on the menu. Anyway, the food wasn't particularly good -- I hope Grandma doesn't read food blogs! But, it was a nice time and the famous chef Lidia came over and said hello which Grandma enjoyed immensely and I thought made it sort of like I was talking to two Grandmas.
